Alicante Elche Airport Expects Stylish Summer with 9.3% More Seats |
During the summer months, from June 2023 to August 2023, Alicante Elche 'Miguel Hernández' Airport will witness approximately 14,700 departures, which is 7% more than the number recorded during the corresponding period last year.
To be more specific, this month we have a total of 4,600 departures scheduled, while July 2023, being the busiest month, will see 5,100 departures, followed by 5,000 departures in August 2023.
When it comes to flight availability, airlines have offered over 2.6 million seats in these three months, which is 9.3% higher than the previous year 2022. These flights connect to 107 cities across 24 countries worldwide.
The notable surge in passenger numbers is evident from Germany, where the number of departures has nearly doubled compared to the previous year 2022. Italy has also experienced a significant increase.
Considering these statistics, the Hotel and Tourism Business Association of the Valencian Community (HOSBEC) predicts a summer 2023 that will mark the definitive recovery of the tourism sector in 2023. Nuria Montes, the general clerk of HOSBEC, even anticipates it to be "one of the most remarkable summers in history."
Among HOSBEC's forecasts, it is estimated that between 30 and 35% of tourists arriving at the Elche airport this summer 2023 will be from the United Kingdom.
Additionally, AENA, the airport operator, recently released figures for May 2023, which set a new record with over 1.5 million passengers, representing an 18% increase compared to April 2023.
From January to May this year 2023, the airport has handled over 5.5 million passengers, indicating a growth rate of 28% compared to the same period in 2022.
During the first five months of the year 2023, a total of 36,375 departures have been operated at the airport, which is 15% higher than the corresponding period in the previous year 2022.
Breaking down the passenger origins in May 2023, the United Kingdom was the leading country, contributing the highest number of tourists, followed by the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Norway, and France.
