پاکستان کے شمالی علاقہ جات میں ایک مقام ایسا بھی ہے جہاں بادل آپ کا استقبال کرتے ہیں ماہ جون جولائی میں بھی وہاں کی ٹھنڈی ہوائیں آپ کے کانوں میں سرگوشی کرتی ہیں۔۔۔ویسے تو پاکستان کے شمالی علاقہ جات دنیا بھر میں مشہور ہیں مگر یہاں کے کچھ مقامات ایسے بھی ہیں جو ان تمام مقامات میں بہت زیادہ دلفریب و دلکش ہیں۔۔۔جہاں پہنچ کر لگتا ہے کہ آپ اس دنیا میں ہیں ہی نہیں جس کو آپ جانتے ہیں۔۔۔بلند پہاڑ ان سے بہتے آبشار ایک طرف تو دوسری طرف آپ کا ہمسفر جو آپ کے ساتھ بیشتر علاقوں میں ساتھ چلتا ہے جس کو آپ چاہتے ہوئے بھی نظر انداز نہیں کر سکتے نہ ہی اس سے بچ کر چل سکتے ہیں وہ ہیں یہاں کے یخ بستہ دریا۔۔۔وہ دریا جو مختلف گلیشئیر کے پانی سے بنتا ہے۔۔۔جس کو خونی دریا کے نام سے جانتے ہیں مقامی لوگ۔۔۔وہ ہے دریا کنہرجو کہ آپ کے ساتھ چلتا رہتا ہے مستقل۔۔۔اس دریا کا شور آپ کے کانوں میں پورے راستے رس گھولتا ہے تو کہیں اس کی خوفناک آواز سے خوفزدہ بھی ہونا پڑتا ہے۔۔۔اس دریا کی ایک اور خاص بات وہ یہ کہ اس میں سب سے مہنگی مچھلی ٹراؤٹ بھی پائی جاتی ہے۔۔۔جو بے حدلزیز ہوتی ہے۔۔۔اور یہ صرف ٹھنڈے پانی میں پائی جاتی ہے شمالی علاقہ جات کے علاوہ شائد ہی یہ مچھلی آپ کو شہروں میں ملے۔۔۔خیر شمالی علاقہ میں جس مقام کی بات کر رہے تھے وہ تھا شوگران۔۔۔اکثر لوگ شہری زندگی سے دور یہاں بیاں باں میں قدرت کے نظاروں کا لطف لیتے سیلفیاں لیتے نظر آئیں گے۔قدرتی مناظر کے نظارے کے معاملے میں یوں تو پاکستان کے شمالی علاقہ جات اپنی مثال آپ ہیں ان کا دنیا بھر میں کوئی ثانی نہیں ان میں سے چند ایک کا ذکر کرتے چلیں اور یہ سفر شروع ہوتا ہے مری سے۔۔

رات دیر ہم مری پہنچے قریباً رات کے ۹ بج چکے تھے رات گزارنے کے لیئے ہم نے ہوٹل کا انتخاب کرنا تھا ہم نے کیا کرنا تھا مال روڈ کے پاس ہماری گاڑی رکی ہی تھی کہ چاروں طرف سے مختلف ہوٹلز کے نمائندے ہمارے پاس پہنچ گئے کوئی اپنے ہوٹل کی خصوصیات بیان کرنے لگا تو کوئی رعائتی پیکج بتانے لگاایک سے ہم مخاطب ہوئے تو دوسرا بول پڑا کہ سر پہلے میں آیا ہوں آپ کے پاس آپ مجھ سے بات کریں پہلے کو چھوڑ دوسرے سے بات کرنے لگے تو تیسرا بول پڑا کہ سر پہلے میں آیا ہوں ابھی ہم اس ہی کشمکش میں تھے کہ کس سے بات کی جائے اس ہی اثناء میں ہمارے ایک دوست کی نظر اپنے کزن پر پڑی اس کا کزن پوری فیملی کا ساتھ یہاں آیا ہوا تھا وہ ہمیں چھوڑ اپنے کزن کے پاس جا پہنچا ہم یہ سب دیکھ ہی رہے تھے کہ گاڑی کے ڈرائیور نے آواز لگائی سر جلدی بتائیں کہاں جانا ہے مجھے دیر ہو رہی ہے واپس بھی جانا ہے مجھے۔ہم گئے درمیاں میں پھنس۔۔۔ایک طرف ڈرائیور،ایک طرف ہوٹل نمائندے۔اور ہمارے دوست جناب کاشان صاحب اپنے کزن سے خوشگپیوں میں مصروف ہو گئے۔۔۔۔ابھی اس ہی سوچ میں ہم گم تھے کہ کاشان  صاحب کی آواز آئی جنید بھائی یہاں لے آئیں سب کو ہوٹل کا انتظام ہو گیا ہے۔ہم سب نے کاشان کی طرف حیرانگی سے دیکھا اور سب کو فکر بھی لاحق تھی کہ کاشان صاحب جو ہیں وہ تھوڑے سے شاہ خرچ انسان ہیں اس لئیے سب نے کاشان کی طرف سوالیہ نظروں سے دیکھا مگر بولا کسی نے کچھ نہیں خیر سب کاشان اور اس کی فیملی کے پیچھے چل دئیے ۵ منٹ کی مسافت پر ہی ایک ہوٹل آیا جس کو دیکھ کر سب کو یقین ہو گیا کہ ٹور کے آدھے پیسے تو اس ہوٹل میں گئے ایک رات کے۔۔۔کاشان اپنے کزن کے ساتھ اندر تھا ہم باہر اس کے منتظر تھے جیسے ہی وہ باہر آیا سب نے یک زباں ہو کر کہا کاشاں صاحب ہم صرف یہاں ہوٹل دیکھنے نہیں آئے ہمیں آگے اور بھی جگہیں جانا ہے۔۔۔یہ بہت مہنگا ہوٹل ہے ہم نہیں رک سکتے یہاں گر ہم یہاں رک گئے تو ہمارا آگے کا سارا پلان ختم ہوجائے گا کیوں کہ نا ہی نو من تیل ہوگا اور نہ ہی رادھا ناچے گی۔۔۔کاشان صاحب یہ سب چپ چاپ سنتے رہے جب سب خاموش ہوئے تو موصوف فرمانے لگے کہ آپ لوگوں کو کس نے کہا کہ آپ لوگ یہاں رکنے والے ہیں۔۔۔جنید نے کہا تم ہی نے تو کہا تھا ہوٹل ہوگیا۔۔۔کاشان ایک دبی سی ہنسی کے ساتھ بولا ابے سالوں شکل دیکھی ہے تم لوگوں نے اپنی شیشہ میں۔یہاں رکو گے تم لوگ؟؟؟؟یہ سن کر سب کو تھوڑا سکون ملا۔۔۔یہاں ایک بات بتاتا چلوں کہ یہ چاروں دوست اسکول کے ٹائم سے ساتھ ہیں۔اسکول،کالج یونیورسٹی سب جگہ ساتھ ہی رہے اس لئیے ان کے درمیان تکلف کا مزاج کم ہی ہے اور ویسے بھی دوستوں میں تکلف ہوتا کہاں ہے۔جہاں تکلف ہو وہاں دوستی نہیں ہوتی ایسا میرا ماننا ہے۔۔۔خیر سب نے پھر کاشان سے سوال کیا کہ بھائی اب تو ہوٹل پہنچا دو کچھ آرام کرلیں پھر صبح نکلنا بھی ہے۔۔۔کاشان اصل میں پہلے بھی کئی بار آچکا ہے یہاں۔۔۔اس لئیے سب اس ہی کے پیچھے چل رہے تھے۔۔۔اور ہم سب کو راضی کرنے والا بھی کاشان ہی ہے ورنہ ہم کبھی ہمت کرنہیں سکتے تھے یہاں آنے کی۔۔۔خیر ہوٹل بھی آگیا ہم نے ایک ہی روم لیا تھا چار لوگ تھے ہم کافی تھا ایک روم ہمارے لئیے۔۔۔سامان رکھا اور فریش ہونے کا سوچا تو کاشان نے کہا کہ فریش ہو گے تم لوگ یہاں ٹھیک جاؤ پہلے کون جائے گا یا میں جاؤں۔۔۔جنید فوراً چلا گیا جس پر کاشان نے اسے جاتے ہوئے کہا کہ جا بیٹا جلدی آجائے گا۔۔۔جنید نے اس کی بات پر کان نہ دھرے اور ایک ہی منٹ بعد اندر سے جنید کی آواز آئی ابے سالے تو نے پہلے بتایا کیوں نہیں۔۔۔۔کاشان باہر بیٹھا مسکراتا رہا۔۔۔۔خیر جنید باہر آیا تو کاشان نے دوسرے دوست کو کہا کہ اب کون جائے گا۔۔۔۔باقی دو دوست ایک دوسرے کی طرف دیکھتے ہوئے کچھ پریشان نظر آنے لگے۔۔اسی اثناء میں جنید آیا تو دونوں نے اس سے سوال کیا کہ کیا نہیں بتایا کاشان بھائی نے کیا بول رہے تھے تم اندر سے۔۔۔جنید اور کاشان نے ایک دوسرے کی طرف دیکھا اور مسکرا دئیے اب باقی دو دوست بھی ایک ایک کر کے گئے ان کی بھی وہ ہی آواز تھی جو جنید کی تھی۔۔۔۔خیر تیسرے نمبر پر جو گیا تھا وہ فائدہ میں رہا کیوں کہ تب تک گیزر آن ہو چکا تھا اس کو اتنا محسوس نہ ہوا۔۔۔۔باقی تینوں دوست ایک دوسرے کو دیکھ کر مسکراتے رہے۔۔۔یک دم جنید کاشان سے مخاطب ہوا کہ بھائی بتا تو دیتے کہ یہاں پانی اتنا ٹھنڈا آتا ہے۔۔۔کاشان۔۔کیوں باہر کا موسم دیکھ کر اندازہ نہیں ہوا تم لوگوں کو کہ یہاں کا پانی کیسا ہوگا۔۔۔جنید نہیں یار وہ بات نہیں تھکن اتنی تھی تو اس طرف ہمارا دھیان ہی نہیں گیا لیکن تو نے بھی اچھا نہیں کیا ہم چھوڑیں گے نہیں تم کو۔۔۔کاشانمسکراتے ہوئے ہاں چھوڑنا بھی نہیں ورنا گھر کیسے جاؤ گے۔۔۔پھر بھی یار تو بہت۔۔۔۔۔ہے(خالی جگہ دوست احباب خود بھر لیں)۔خیر کھانا ہم نے مری آتے ہوئے رستے میں ہی کھا لیا تھا اب بس سونا تھا اور صبح کا انتظار تھا۔۔۔۱۱ بج چکے تھے سب نے اپنا اپنا بستر پکڑ لیا۔۔۔صبح ہوئی قریباً ۷ بجے کاشان بھائی نے سب کو اٹھا دیا۔۔۔خیر جلدی اٹھے سب اور سامان تو پیک ہی تھا ہمارا اور پھر کاشان بھائی نے رات ہی کو ناران جانے کے لئیے کار بک کرالی تھی۔۔۔سامان اٹھایا اور چل دئیے اپنی منزل کی طرف۔۔۔مری سے گزرتے ہوئے ایک ہوٹل پر نظرپڑی تو احساس ہوا کہ ہم نے تو ناشتہ بھی نہیں کیا ہے کاشان کو مخاطب کرتے ہوئے بولے کہ بھائی ناشتہ تو کرا دو کاشان نے صاف انکار کر دیا گاڑی کچھ اور آگے چلی تو ایک دوست کو طبعیت میں بھاری پن محسوس ہونے لگا جس پر ڈرائیور نے فوری ایک شاپر نکال ک دیا ساتھ یہ تاکید بھی کی کہ سر گاڑی گندی مت کیجیئے گاپہلے تو ہماری سمجھ میں آیا نہیں پھر کچھ ہی دیر میں کاشان کے علاوہ تینوں دوستو کی طبعیت خراب ہونے لگی تینوں رستے میں اُلٹیاں کرتے رہے کچھ ہی دیر میں کیوائی آگیا جس کو آبشار کیفے کے نام سے بھی جانتے ہیں اکثر لوگ۔۔۔ڈرائیور نے گاڑی وہاں لگائی کہ آپ لوگ کچھ دیر یہاں آرام کر لیں کچھ کھا پی بھی لیں اب آگے راستے سب نارمل ہیں۔۔۔گاڑی سے اترتے ہوئے کاشان نے کہا کہ اس لیئے ناشتہ نہیں کرایا تھا کہ راستہ خراب ہے الٹیاں کرتے ہیں اکثر لوگ جو تم لوگوں نے بھی کی۔۔۔یہ سننا تھا کہ سب یک دم بولے ابے بھائی تو پہلے سے بتاتا کیوں نہیں ہے ہمیں جب سب ہو جاتا ہے تو بولتا ہے۔۔۔کاشان۔۔پہلے بتا دیتا تو وہاں سے نکلتے ہی تم لوگوں کی حالت خراب ہوجاتی۔۔خیر یہاں  ہم ناشتہ ابھی بھی نہیں کریں گے پلان میں کچھ تبدیلی ہے ہم پہلے یہاں سے شوگران جائیں گے پھر وہاں سے مکڑا پیک پھر واپسی پرناشتہ کریں گے نیچے آکر۔۔۔جنید۔۔نیچے آکر مطلب؟؟؟ابھی اور اوپر جانا ہے کیا؟؟؟کاشان ہاں ایک بہت دلفریب جگہ ہے ایسی جگہ جہاں بس نیلاآسمان ہوگا سفید بادل اور ہریالی۔۔۔قدرت کے بے مثال شاہکار کا ایک منہ بولتا ثبوت ہے۔۔۔ایک بار پھر سب گاڑی میں سوار ہوئے اور اب گاڑی گامزن تھی شوگران کی جانب۔۔۔شوگران کا رستہ بھی تھوڑا خراب ہے۔۔۔اس کا اندازہ جنید اور باقی دوستوں کو بھی اوپر جاتے وقت ہو گیا تھا جب انہوں نے جگہ جگہ مختلف گاڑیوں کو رکتے دیکھا کوئی گاڑی کا بونٹ کھول کے لگا ہوا تھا تو کوئی گاڑی کے ٹائر کی مرمت کر رہا تھا۔۔۔بات کچھ ایسی ہے کہ شوگران کا رستہ بہت زیادہ نا ہموار ہے اس رستے پر اکثر گاڑیوں کے بریک کام میں آجاتے ہیں واپسی آتے وقت اس کی کھڑی ڈھلان کے باعث۔۔۔کیونکہ کچھ نا تجربہ کار ڈرائیور گاڑی نیچے اتارتے وقت بریک پر پیر رکھ کر گاڑی چلاتے ہیں اور بے وقت بریک کا استعمال بہت زیادہ کرتے ہیں۔۔۔جبکہ شوگران کے راستے پر جگہ جگہ لکھا ہے کہ ۔۔۔۔۔ گاڑی دوسرے اور پہلے گئیر میں چلائیں۔۔۔۔۔مگر لوگ اس پر توجہ نہیں دیتے مستقل بریک استعمال کرنے کے باعث اکثر اس روڈ پر حادثات ہوتے ہیں جو صرف بریک فیل ہونے کی وجہ سے ہوتے ہیں۔۔۔۔خیر ہمارے ڈرائیور صاحب کئی عرصہ سے ان ہی ٹریکس پر گاڑی چلانے کا وسیع تجربہ رکھتے ہیں باقی اللہ کی مہربانی ہے کہ ہم شوگران تک پہنچ گئے۔۔۔شوگران پہنچ کر سب کی زبان پر سبحان اللہ کا کلمات رواں تھے اور کیوں نہ ہوتے ایسے دلکش دلفریف مناظر کہاں دیکھنے کو ملتے ہیں کچھ دیر ہم نے وہاں ادھر ادھر کے نظارے کئیے پھر ڈرائیور نے ہمیں آکرایک پوائنٹ دکھایا کہ وہ دیکھو وہ سامنے ایک جگہ ہے جو موسیٰ کا مسلہٰ کے نام سے مشہور ہے۔۔۔۔۔شوگران واقعی اپنی ایک الگ ہی دنیا ہے۔۔۔

یہاں سے کچھ دیر کا ٹریک کر کے ہم ایک جگہ پہنچے جہاں سے جیپ ایک دوسری سمت کی طرف جا رہی تھیں ہم نے 

کاشان بھائی سے پوچھا یہ کہاں کا رستہ ہے کہاں جا رہے ہیں یہ لوگ؟؟؟کاشان بھائی نے بتایا کہ ہم بھی اس ہی راستے جانے والے ہیں یہ جیپ ہمیں مکڑا پیک کی طرف لے جائے گی۔۔۔جنید نے سوال کیا بھائی راستہ کیسا ہے؟کاشان نے مسکراتے ہوئے ابھی جس رستے سے آئے ہو اس سے زیادہ خراب ہے۔۔۔۔۔تینوں دوست ایک دوسرے کا چہرہ دیکھنے لگے پر کرتے بھی کیا انہوں نے اپنے سفر کے آغاز سے ہی اس پورے ٹرپ کا مکمل اختیار کاشان بھائی کے حوالے کر دیا تھا۔۔۔۔۔کاشان کی آواز آئی آجاؤ جیپ بک کر لی ہے۔۔۔ہم سب ڈگمگاتے قدموں کے ساتھ جیپ کی طرف چل دئیے۔۔۔۔۔اللہ کا نام لیا اور سوار ہو گئے۔۔۔جیپ نے چلنا شروع ہی کیا تھا کہ سب کے لبوں پر کلمہ پاک کا ورد جاری ہوگیا۔۔۔۔۔جس جس نے اس ٹریک پر سفر کیا ہوگا وہ اندازہ لگا سکتا ہے کہ پہلی بار اس ٹریک پر سفر کرنے والوں کا کیا حال ہوتا ہے۔۔۔پورے رستے سب اچھل اچھل کر ایک دوسرے کی گود میں سوار ہوتے رہے اس کی وجہ صرف ٹریک کا بہت زیادہ غیر ہموار ہونا تھا جیپ باقاعدہ جمپ کرتی چل رہی تھی ایسا نہیں تھا کہ پورا رستہ خراب ہے کچھ حصہ بہت خراب ہے۔۔۔۔ایک گھنٹے کی مسافت کے بعد جیپ ایک مقام پر رکی آگے راستہ بند تھا لینڈ سلائیڈنگ کے باعث۔۔۔خیر وہاں سے اور لوگ بھی جا رہے تھے پیدل جن کو دیکھ کر ہم ابھی سوچ ہی رہے تھے کہ بڑی ہمت ہے بھائی ان لوگوں میں کہ اچانک کاشان بھائی کی آواز آئی ہاں سالوں اب بتاؤ کیا کرنا ہے آگے چلنا ہے یا نہیں۔۔۔۔جنید مطلب آگے تو رستہ نہیں کیسے جائیں گے۔۔۔۔کاشان۔۔پیدل۔۔جنید۔۔کتنی دیر کا رستہ ہے۔۔۔کاشان۔۔بھائی میں مقامی نہیں یہاں کا اندازہ نہیں مگر زیادہ دور بھی نہیں مگر پہاڑی علاقہ ہے تو ایک کلو میٹر بھی یہاں ۵ کلو میٹر لگتا ہے۔۔۔چلو یار چلتے ہیں اب یہاں تک آئیں ہیں تو ایک دوست کی آواز آئی۔۔۔کاشان بھائی نے ڈروائیور سے راستے کا معلوم کیا اور چل دئیے سب کاشان بھائی کے پیچھے۔۔۔۔کافی دیر چلنے کے بعد اور کافی خراب راستہ کے بعد ہم پہنچ ہی گئے مکڑا پیک۔۔۔یہاں کا نظارہ بھی کسی سے کم نہیں تھا۔۔۔سب نے پہلے تو ایک ایک جگہ پکڑی جہاں سایہ تھا اور ٹھنڈی ہوا اس کا لطف دوبالا کر رہی تھی۔۔۔سب سستانے لیٹ گئے کچھ دیر آرام کے بعد ادھر اُدھر کچھ مٹر گشت کی سیلفیاں بنائیں۔۔۔ان ہی سب میں کب وقت گزرا معلوم ہی نہیں ہوا۔۔۔کاشان بھائی نے آکر کہا کہ چلو بھائی آگے بھی جانا ہے یہیں رہنا کا ارادہ ہے کیا۔۔۔۔ٹریک کے باعث سب کے پیر میں سے جان نکل چکی تھی عادی نہیں تھے ایسے راستوں کے اس وجہ سے۔۔۔خیر سب نے ایک بار پھر نیچے کی طرف چلنا شروع ہی کیا تھا کہ جنید نے کاشان کو آواز لگائی او بھائی مجھے گود میں اُٹھا لے یار یا کوئی پیٹھ پر بٹھا کر لے جائے۔۔۔کاشان نے ایک مسکراہٹ کے ساتھ جواب دیا بھیا جی چلو پیدل یہ قدرت کے نظارے دیکھنا آسان ہوتا تو ہر کوئی یہاں آجاتا اور پھر یہاں کا بھی حال شہر جیسا ہونا تھا۔۔۔۔خیر سب ایک دوسرے کی ٹانگ کھینچتے ہوئے چل پڑے۔۔۔واپسی پر کافی تھکن ہو چکی تھی ساتھ ہی ناشتہ بھی نہیں کیا ہوا تھا۔۔۔نیچے آتے آتے سب کی حالت غیر ہو چکی تھی بس اب سب کے زبان پر ایک ہی کام تھا کہ نیچے جا کر ناشتہ کرنا ہے سب سے پہلے۔۔۔خیر آپس کی بحث و تکرار اور کچھ شغلیہ کلام کے ساتھ نیچے آتے وقت کبھی بھول جاتے درد تکلیف کبھی یاد آتا تو بیٹھ کر سُستا لیتے۔۔۔خیر جیپ ٹریک پر آگئے تھے اب ہم اور ڈرائیور صاحب بھی مہران اب نیچے جیپ ٹریک تک لے آئے تھے وہاں سب بیٹھے اب ہمارا واپسی کا سفر شروع تھا نیچے آتے وقت کچھ گاڑیاں دیکھی جن کے بریک فیل تھے یا انجن گرم ہو گیا تھا۔۔۔ایک گاڑی تو باقاعدہ اُلٹی پڑی ہوئی تھی رک کر ہم نے بھی اوروں کی طرح مدد کرنے کی کوشش کی مگر تب تک سب لوگوں کو گاڑی سے نکال لیا گیا تھا اور نیچے روانہ کر دیا گیا تھا۔۔۔۔یہ سب حادثات صرف ڈرائیور کی نااہلی کے باعث پیش آتے ہیں۔۔۔۔خیر ہم سب بیٹھے واپس گاڑی میں اب کچھ ہی دیر میں نیچے بھی آگئے تھے

 اور کچھ ہی دیر گاڑی چلی ہوگی کہ کیوائی کا مقام بھی آگیا جہاں رک کر ہم نے ناشتہ کرنا تھا۔۔۔ڈرائیور نے گاڑی سائیڈ میں لگائی ہم سب کیفے کی طرف چل دئیے کچھ ہی دیر میں ڈرائیور نے بھی ہم کو جوئن کر لیا۔۔۔۔اوپر سے آبشار بہہ رہا تھا نیچے چار پائی بچھی تھی چار پائی کے نیچے پانی وہ بھی یخ بستہ پانی۔۔۔ہم نے کھانا آرڈر کیا اور پیر پانی میں ڈال کر بیٹھ گئے اور باتوں میں لگ گئے کچھ ہی دیر میں کھانا آگیا سب صبح کے بھوکے تھے کھانا دیکھ کر ٹوٹ پڑے اور کب ختم ہوا پتا بھی نہیں چلاکاشان بھائی نے ایک اور آڈر کر دیا وہ بھی جلد ہی آگیا خیر کھانا کھاتے وقت کا بھی معلوم نہیں ہوا نہ ہی تھکن کا اب کوئی احساس تھا۔۔۔وقت دیکھا تو شام ہونے کو تھی۔۔۔مگر دن بھر جو نظارے ہم نے دیکھے اس کو سوچ کر ہی ہماری دن بھر کی تھکن دور ہوتی جاتی تھی۔۔۔۔بے شک ہمارا رب ہی ہے جو ہر شہ پر قادر ہے اور وہ ہی بے شک ایک بہترین تخلیق کار ہے۔۔۔بلند و بالا پہاڑ ان سے بہتے جھرنے ایک تازگی کا احساس دلاتے تھے۔۔۔۔زندگی میں ایک بار تو لازمی ہمیں ان علاقوں کو دیکھنا چاہئیے۔۔۔

It is one of the most dangerous routes in Pakistan administered Kashmir. Every year many deaths happen here due to the mountainous slopes, which are among the most dangerous in the world. The most common reason for death is the brake failure of cars due to inexperience. Babusar Top was originally known as Babur Top, originating from the fact that the Mughal emperor Babur used to pass through this area in the early 16th century. Nowadays however, it is commonly referred to as Babusar Top.

The Kaghan Valley is at its best during summer (from May to September). In May, the maximum temperature is 11°C (52°F) and the minimum temperature is 3°C (37°F). From the middle of July up to the end of September the road beyond Naran is open right up to the Babusar Pass. However, movement is restricted during the monsoon and winter seasons. The Kaghan area can be accessed by road via the cities of Islamabad or Peshawar.

The mountain ranges which enter the Mansehra District from Kashmir are the offshoots of the great Himalayan system. In the Kaghan Valley, the mountain system is the highest of the area including the Babusar Top. This range flanks the right bank of the Kunhar River, and contains a peak called Malika Parbat, which is over 17,000 feet (19) and is the highest in the district. On the mountains the grasslands are also found where Gujjars and other nomads migrate during the summer for grazing by their sheep, goats and other animals. On the north side there are mountains which are the extension of the same mountain system as that of the Kaghan mountains. This range diverges from the eastern side at Musa-ka-Musalla a peak (13,378 feet) (20), which skirt the north end of the Bhogarmang and Konsh valleys, and sends down a spur to divide the two. Here also, like Kaghan, thick forests are naturally present, especially on the higher slopes. However, due to extensive exploitation, the thick forests are now usually found in the unapproachable areas.

Flora and fauna

The flora includes the trees, shrubs, perennials, and herbs of the Himalayan Western Himalayan subalpine conifer forests and higher elevation Western Himalayan alpine shrub and meadows ecoregions. Some of the park's fauna includes the snow leopard, black bear, marmot, weasel, lynx, leopard, Himalayan snowcock, and the snow partridge. The park's lakes and wetlands habitats are of significant ecological importance for resident fauna and migratory waterfowl.

Access

The road is accessible by cars and motorbikes. The 2005 Kashmir earthquake in North Pakistan made access more difficult. However, since 2006 the Pakistan government has taken steps to restore tourism in the Kaghan Valley, including rebuilding and new tourism facilities and infrastructure.

Saiful Muluk National Park, with Lake Saiful Muluk, is adjacent to Lulusar-Dodipat National Park in the Kaghan Valley region. Together the parks protect 88,000 hectares (220,000 acres).

Dudipatsar Lake-Dudipatsar Lake or Dudipat Lake is a lake encircled by snow clad peaks in Lulusar-Dudipatsar National Park. The lake lies in the extreme north of the Naran Valley. The word "dudi" means white, "pat" means mountains and "sar" means lake. This name has been given to the lake because of the white color of snow at surrounding peaks. In summer the water of the lake reflects like a mirror. The word "sar" is used with the name of each lake in the area, translating as 'lake

The Dudipatsar Trail is an approximately 18 km (11 mi) hiking trail in the Lulusar-Dudipatsar National Park of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, in northern Pakistan. The trail goes along a tributary of the Kunhar River called Poorbi Narr in the northern Kaghan Valley. The headwater for the particular tributary is the Dudipat Lake and the trail has a cumulative elevation gain of 640 metres (2,100 ft). The average time taken to complete the trail is 5 to 8 hours.

Overview

The trail is entirely within the national park and passes through multiple life zones of the park, from lowland forests to alpine meadows of wildflowers. As the trail climbs up to the plateau, hikers see different wildlife in the region including marmots and different species of birds.

The trail is of medium difficulty. The overall elevation gain isn't great but climbing at high altitude makes the trail more demanding. During the course of the trail, one encounters boulders, meadows, plateaus, snow (in early summer) and streams. The trail and the surrounding mountains are frequently used by cattle herders who set up summer homes in the area.

The main hiking season is mid-summer, which is often dry and sunny. Hikers early in the season can see snow in the ravine that runs down from the plateau. The plateau is marshy in places (waterproof boots advised). There are a number of river crossings on the trail including one buggy bridge. The same river tributary is crossed on log bridges on a couple of locations.

The trails starts at Besal, where there is a driver hotel and a police check post. Lodging is available as well as space for setting up camp. Parking of vehicles is done at one's own risk but someone can be hired to look after vehicles for a day or two.

There are three ways to hike the trail

One-day trek (advised for moderate to experienced hikers) will not require a night stay. Going up to the lake can be done in about 3–5 hours while coming down it will take 3–4 hours.

Two-day trek (for novice to moderate hikers) will require a night stay either in Mulla ki Basti (2 km (1.2 mi) short of Dudipatsar) or at Dudipat Lake itself. Going up to the lake can take anywhere from 6 to 10 hours. Coming back is generally quicker, around 5–6 hours. Mules can be rented at Besal to carry luggage for the trek.

A three-day trek will require two night stays in Mulla ki Basti or at Dudipatsar. Hikers can reach the planned destination and after an overnight stay have a full day to tour the lake. Again after a night stay they can get back easily.

Guides are available at Besal for hike to Dudipatsar. Experienced hikers can wing it and go off on their own – remember to follow the water tributary as Dudipatsar is at the head.

Mid-September, most of the herding flocks and inhabitants of Mullah ki Basti come down in preparation of winter. So if one plans to head towards Dudipat Lake at that time, it is necessary to take ample amount of food and preferably tents as no lodging is available for 9–10 km (5.6–6.2 mi) from the starting point. The makeshift hotels are also shut down so no food is available. If one reaches Mullah ki Basti, abandoned stone houses are available to camp and rest for the night.

Camping

For the two day trek option, a night stay can be done either in Mulla ki Basti (2 km short of Dudipatsar) or at Dudipat Lake. You have the option of either carrying along your camping gear or alternatively using the facilities at the makeshift hotel at Mulla ki Basti. Price for food generally runs at twice of that at Besal. (someone add lodging cost here for the makeshift hotel.

Dudipatsar Lake, also known as Dudipat Lake, is a lake encircled by snow clad peaks in Lulusar-Dudipatsar National Park.

The lake lies in the north end of the Kaghan Valley, in the Mansehra District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, in northern Pakistan.

Geography

The lake's water is greenish blue hue and very cold, at an elevation of 3,800 metres (12,500 ft). The surrounding mountains,

with snow patches in the shady dales, average around 4,800 metres (15,700 ft) in elevation. 

Their natural habitat is in the Western Himalayan alpine shrub and meadows ecoregion.

Lulusar Lake, also in the park, is the primary headwaters of the Kunhar River.

Saiful Muluk National Park, with Saif ul Maluk Lake, is adjacent in the 150 kilometres (93 mi) long Kaghan Valley region and together the parks protect 88,000 hectares (220,000 acres).

Wildlife

The lake and its wetlands habitats are of significant ecological importance for resident fauna and migratory waterfowl.

Some of the park's fauna includes the snow leopard, black bear, marmot, weasel, lynx, leopard, Himalayan snowcock, and snow partridge.

The 2005 Kashmir earthquake in North Pakistan made access more difficult.

However, since 2006 the Pakistan government has taken steps to restore tourism in the Kaghan Valley, including rebuilding and new tourism facilities and infrastructure.

Saiful Muluk is located in the Mansehra district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, about 9 kilometres (5.6 mi) north of Naran, in the northern part of Kaghan Valley. Malika Parbat, the highest peak in the valley is near the lake.The lake is accessible from the nearby town of Naran during the summer season but access during winter is limited.

Physical features

Saiful Muluk was formed by glacial moraines that blocked the water of the stream passing through the valley.The Kaghan Valley was formed in the greater Pleistocene Period dating back almost 300,000 years when the area was covered with ice. Rising temperatures and receding glaciers left a large depression where glaciers once stood. Melting water collected into the lake.

Ecology

The lake has rich eco-diversity and holds many species of blue-green algae. Large brown trout are found in the lake, up to about seven kilograms.About 26 species of vascular plant exist in the area, with Asteraceae the most commonly found species. Other species commonly found in the region are: Ranunculaceae, Compositae, Cruciferae, Gramineae, Apiaceae, Leguminosae, Scrophulariaceae and Polygonaceae.

Folklore

The Lake Saiful Muluk is named after a legendary prince. A fairy tale called Saif-ul-Muluk, written by the Sufi poet Mian Muhammad Bakhsh, talks of the lake.It tells the story of the prince of Persia named Prince Saiful Malook who fell in love with a fairy princess named Princess Badri-ul-Jamala at the lake.
