This district is located at the confluence of river Neelam and Jhelum river. This district is linked from the west side with Khyber pakhtoon khawah, the Kupwara district.
And Baramulla district of Indian occupied Kashmir is located on the east side, while district Neelam is located in the north.
History
in 1646 sultan Muzaffar khan developed the area and also built the red fort, Sultan Muzaffar Khan was chief of the bomba tribe in Kashmir, and this tribe rules Kashmir.
While construction of the red fort is for against the Mughal empire. The fort was built to protect itself from the invasion of the Mughal Empire.
2005 earthquake
The city of Muzaffarabad was close to the epicenter of a magnitude 7.5 earthquake in Kashmir in the year 2005, which destroyed about 50 percent of the city and caused estimated more damage.
According to a report, a conservative estimate is that Pakistan has confirmed the deaths of 87350 people, while according to an unofficial report, the number has exceeded one lakh.
Administrative subdivision
District Muzafarabad has two tehsils, Patikka, and Muzaffarabad, while it is divided into 25 union councils.
